Launch of The Royal Mint app continues Mediaworks’ success

Digital marketing agency Mediaworks is celebrating the launch of The Royal Mint’s Great British Coin Hunt app, which they designed and developed. Mediaworks was chosen to create an app to support The Royal Mint’s release of 26 new 10p coins, which together depict an A-Z of quintessentially British items, locations and personas, from Stonehenge to James Bond.

Available to download for free from the App Store and Google Play, the app needed to connect with The Royal Mint’s coin collector audience, as well as the wider community. Functionality has been included in the app to target both of these demographics.

As the coins are released into circulation systematically, users can keep track of the coins in their collection via the app. Using image recognition technology, users can scan the coins they collect to create a digital record of them.

Map functionality shows users where coins have been found in the UK, as well as where coins have been released and details of swap shop events, to help users find the coins they need to complete their collection.

Users can find out about the rarity of the coins, as well as how many have been found and logged using the app, while also earning badges through unlocking more coins.

In addition, the app’s ‘Create-a-Coin’ feature allows users to use Great British Coin Hunt elements to design their own digital coin. These can then be saved in a digital wallet and shared online.

The app has already launched to phenomenal success, with over 7,000 downloads within the first 24 hours of its release.

Speaking of the app, Mediaworks’ Creative Director Andrew Blenkinsop said: “To design and develop an app of this scale for The Royal Mint is hugely exciting and we’re incredibly proud of the end product we have delivered. We hope both coin collectors and other users will enjoy using the app and the functionality we have included.”

The Royal Mint project is the latest in Mediaworks’ award-winning portfolio of app development work.  The full service agency continues to expand its talented design and development team and explore new technologies to support their clients’ digital ambitions.

The Great British Coin Hunt app can be downloaded from Google Play here and the App Store here.
