Sony Ericsson X10 At Dialaphone
We discovered Dialaphone last month, when we were checking out mobile-contract websites, and we have been keeping our eyes open for any deals. At the moment they have some tempting offers for Sony Ericsson’s X10 Smartphone (the larger version, not to be confused with the X10 mini).
OK, so out the box it only has Android OS 1.6 installed, but we have checked out the Sony Ericsson's Website and discovered that in Q4 2010 they are due to release an update to Android OS 2.1. However this may be limited to certain mobile carriers (so it may be worth emailing Sony Ericsson first, to check), but it does mean that the products life is extended somewhat and any issues that it has had in its initial release, around 6 months ago, should hopefully be ironed out.
This is the software download tool…
In terms of the main spec the X10 ticks all the right boxes in our opinion, the highlights are certainly the large 4” screen, with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and its 8MP camera (only a small led flash mind).
Its main interface also deploys Sony EricssonsTimescape software, which combines all of your communication feeds/updates from SMS to Facebook and Twitter, in a series of scrollable tiles.
The only note worthy mention should go to the battery life. With such a large screen its 1500mAH battery may prove to be similar to our findings with the HTC HD2, in that the latters 4.3” screen and high-res display can drain life quicker if you are not carefull (around 3hours of video playback on full brightness for example).
But to improve life further you could always do the trick of allowing the battery to drain fully before each charge and this should improve matters - as will adjusting the back light.
As for the contract deals, well they are offering the X10 - for Free - on a series of contracts from Orange, O2 and Vodafone.
In terms of cost, the Orange deal of Unlimited Text Messages, Unlimited UK Email, 500MB Mobile Internet and 8 Months Half Price line rental (by redemption discount worth £120.00) seemed to be the best deal. This runs over 18Months on their Dolphin plan and as such you also get 300 minutes of calls per month.
