VRFocus to Host Virtual Reality Challenge

VRFocus Ltd., a popular virtual reality (VR) specialist media outlet in Europe, has announced the launch of a brand new initiative. VRFocus’ Virtual Reality Challenge (VRC) will present the largest VR-only Game Jam ever held in the UK, 3rd – 4th September 2016.

Set to be held at Campus London, 4-5 Bonhill Street, London, the event will take place over two days with participants given just 24 hours to create an innovative VR project.

Game Jams have risen in popularity over the past decade, thanks largely to the increasing accessibility of licensed videogame engines. VRFocus has partnered with Epic Games, Inc. to provide participants the opportunity to dig in with the award-winning Unreal Engine 4, known for its cutting-edge graphics technology and scalability across PC, console and mobile platforms, to bring their unique VR vision to life.

Mentors from several UK studios famed for developing VR videogames, including Climax Studios, CherryPop Games and Supermassive Games, will be on-hand throughout the weekend to offer advice and guidance to participants.

Beginning Saturday, 3rd September 2016, 8 teams of 3 members will be given a specific theme to interpret however they choose. They will then have just 24 hours to design and develop their own unique experience based around this central theme using the HTC Vive.

Prototyping and deployment PCs will be provided on-site by NVIDIA Corporation, and participants are also welcome to bring their own hardware for development purposes.

The VRC will conclude on Sunday, 4th September 2016, where members of the winning team will each receive a HTC Vive of their own, courtesy of Valve Corporation LLC, as part of Epic’s Unreal Dev Grants programme.

Applications for the VRC, supported by Thomas Gere of VRoom, are open now at Eventbrite and are free for all.

The event will take place 3rd – 4th September 2016, at Campus London, 4-5 Bonhill Street, London, EC2A 4BX, with light snacks throughout and dinner on Saturday, 3rd September provided by Climax Studios.
